During March, Take a Moment to Thank a Social Worker
03/01/2018
March is Social Work Month, a time to honor and thank the 680,000 social workers who focus on creating positive social change—one person, one family, one community and one issue at a time. The 2018 theme for the month is “Leaders. Advocates. Champions.”
At VITAS, we’re especially proud of our hospice social workers—critical members of every VITAS interdisciplinary team. They are champions who take time to understand patients and their families, making sure their wishes, preferences, values and family stories are heard and honored. They serve as listening boards, connect patients with community resources, hold hands, advocate on their behalf, and help plan memorial services and funerals.
Some VITAS social workers are leading the way as trained facilitators for critical end-of-life discussions and the creation of advance directives so patients, families and physicians agree on the goals of care at the end of life.
VITAS Healthcare social workers have chosen to improve the health and well-being of our patients and families at one of life’s most compelling moments. They are truly “leaders, advocates and champions.”
