VITAS' Joseph Mignone, M.D., Receives Certification by the American Board of Hospice and Palliative Medicine

MIAMI, FL - VITAS Innovative Hospice Care, the nation’s leading provider of end-of-life care, today announced that Joseph Mignone, M.D., has been certified by the American Board of Hospice and Palliative Medicine (ABHPM). This distinction places Dr. Mignone among a select group of physicians who meet the highest clinical and academic standards of the hospice and palliative medicine specialty.

The Jacksonville-based physician, who is also board certified in internal medicine and medical oncology, joined VITAS in 2012. As a team physician, he oversees and provides palliative care and symptom management for home-based hospice patients in Jacksonville and surrounding areas. He also educates healthcare professionals and physicians on the benefits of hospice care.

“The board certification further distinguishes and reaffirms Dr. Mignone’s outstanding qualifications and achievements in the field of hospice and palliative care,” said VITAS Medical Director Luis Anez, M.D. “We are proud to count on noted physicians like Dr. Mignone who are recognized in this specialty working on behalf of our patients and their families.”

Dr. Mignone is the Medical Director of 21st Century Oncology of Jacksonville. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Wagner College in Staten Island, New York, and his medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada. He completed a residency at the University of Florida Health Sciences Center in Jacksonville.
