VITAS' Ronald Fried Named Chair of National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization Board
WASHINGTON, D.C. - VITAS Innovative Hospice Care, the nation’s leading provider of end-of-life care, today announced that Ronald Fried, executive vice president of development and public affairs, has been named chair of the board of the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO) for 2013. The NHPCO is the largest nonprofit membership organization representing hospice and palliative care programs and professionals in the United States.
In this role, Fried will work with NHPCO’s leadership team to support NHPCO’s mission on behalf of the nation’s hospice and palliative care provider and beneficiary communities.
“It is a tremendous honor and responsibility to serve in this important position within the hospice community, and I am excited about the opportunity,” said Fried, who for five years has been a member of the NHPCO Board of Directors, where he previously served as treasurer and vice chair. “I look forward to continuing to work closely with my fellow board members and the professional leadership team at the NHPCO as well as my colleagues at VITAS to support awareness and utilization of high-quality hospice and palliative care. NHPCO has done tremendous work to ensure hospice is available to patients and families across America, and I am proud to be associated with that effort.”
An industry veteran, Fried has more than 20 years of experience in hospice management and administration and more than 30 years of experience in legislative and regulatory affairs. At VITAS, Fried manages state and federal public policy issues for the company and guides VITAS’ strategic development initiatives with other hospice programs.
Fried received a bachelor’s degree in 1981 from the University of Maryland in College Park, MD. He is a member of the boards of directors of the Hospice Action Network and the Florida Hospice and Palliative Care Association.
