New Inpatient Hospice Unit at Baylor Medical Center at Carrollton

VITAS Innovative Hospice Care, the nation's leading provider of end-of-life care, announced plans to open a new VITAS Inpatient Hospice Unit (IPU) on the campus of Baylor Medical Center at Carrollton, 4343 North Josey Lane, Carrollton, TX 75010. The 14-bed, 10,335 square-foot unit is being designed to meet the needs of the area's terminally ill patients with complex symptoms. Construction is currently underway, and the unit is expected to open in mid-2014.

At the unit, VITAS interdisciplinary teams of physicians, nurses, hospice aides, social workers, chaplains, volunteers and bereavement support staff members will attend to the medical, emotional, social and spiritual needs of patients and their families. The unit will feature scenic views of the community and will offer overnight accommodations for family members. Comfortable amenities including kitchen, dining and sitting areas and a serenity room for quiet contemplation and meditation are designed to feel like home. The facility will accept 24-hour direct admissions and high-acuity patients.
