Houston Area Golf Tournament to Benefit Hospice Patients and Families in Need

09/07/2017

Houston, TX—VITAS Healthcare, the nation’s leading provider of end-of-life care, is hosting a golf tournament on October 25 to raise funds for VITAS Community Connection’s (VCC) Houston Chapter.

VCC, VITAS’ charitable arm, provides financial assistance to local hospice patients and families in need and proceeds from the golf tournament will go directly to assisting families with expenses like buying groceries, paying utility bills or rent, or purchasing travel tickets to fly in a loved one during a patient’s final days.

Participating Sponsors

VITAS would like to thank the following sponsors for their support of the cause: Respiratory Quality Services; StateServ; Park Creek Independent Living and Spring Cypress Assisted Living & Memory Care; Klein Funeral Homes and Memorial Parks; Total Home Health; Callaway Golf; FTI Consulting; T & T Construction; Paragon Healthcare; Solana Vintage Park Assisted Living; Comfort Keepers; ActiKare; Bo’s Place; Speedy Printing; French Corner Bakery; Advocates for the Independent, Law Office of Marc Meyer, Medic Pharmacy, Senior Helpers, First Down Roofing and Repairs, Dignity Memorial and Dixon Golf.

Golfing for a Purpose

The goal of the golf tournament is to raise more than $10,000, which could benefit anywhere from 10 to 30 local families in need. The tournament is taking place at Longwood Golf Club in Cypress and is open to teams and individuals to participate in a four-person scramble. More than 72 golfers are expected to attend the tournament and the dinner/awards ceremony that evening.

When a loved one is admitted to hospice care, medical expenses may have a large strain on families who are already financially unstable, even when hospice expenses are fully covered by Medicare, Medicaid or private insurance. Serious illness takes a big bite out of the family budget, leaving little, if any, to pay for basic living expenses.

VITAS, VCC and Our Sponsors Make a Difference

When it comes to the financial pain terminal illness can cause, there's little most hospices can do. The VCC was established to provide financial assistance to VITAS patients and families in need. VITAS is proud that every dollar donated to VCC goes directly to local patients and their families, and grants for community partners.

“We are incredibly thankful to all of the expected event attendees and sponsors who are dedicating their time and resources to support this meaningful program founded by our caring and compassionate VITAS family,” said VITAS General Manager William Weller. “Being able to make a positive difference and pave the way for a smoother journey for those in need is not only humbling, but also at the heart of who we are as a company. We are grateful for the support of the Houston community and hope to raise awareness of the VCC, so we can assist even more patients, families and community partners.”
