MIAMI, FL – VITAS Healthcare applauds the NAHC-NHPCO Alliance for selecting Steven Landers, MD, MPH, as its first chief executive officer (CEO). VITAS, the nation’s leading provider of end-of-life care, salutes the innovation and experience Dr. Landers brings to the role and his dedication to home- and community-based healthcare solutions for people of all ages.

VITAS Chairman and CEO Nick Westfall joined 19 other executives from hospice and palliative care providers and home care organizations across the nation on the NAHC-NHPCO transition board this year to oversee the consolidated organization merger, which officially took place in July. As a transition board member and a legacy NHPCO board member since 2020, Westfall was one of the six committee members who selected Dr. Landers from among the candidates.

“The home-based care community is very fortunate to welcome Dr. Steve Landers as the new CEO of the Alliance,” said Westfall. “His vision and knowledge of patient care will translate to best-in-class advocacy for care at home and community providers across the country—and help us build an even stronger future for our sectors of the American healthcare delivery system.”

As a mission-focused and longstanding end-of-life care provider, VITAS has been a custodian of the hospice care benefit for more than 46 years. VITAS offers compassionate care to hospice and palliative patients and their families through its expert interdisciplinary care teams. As an active participant in legacy NHPCO and now the combined alliance, VITAS joins in the efforts to redefine standards and champion excellence in care-at-home communities.
