Medical Director - New Jersey North
Liliana Pliner is a Medical Director for VITAS Healthcare, the nation’s leading provider of end-of-life care. She is responsible for overseeing the medical care and treatment of VITAS patients in their homes, nursing homes and assisted living facilities in the New Jersey North area. She also consults with patients’ attending physicians, supervises VITAS team physicians, guides staff and volunteers, and serves as a resource to practicing physicians and other healthcare professionals on the benefits of hospice and palliative care for patients and their families.
Dr. Pliner joined VITAS in 2016. Prior to joining, she served as Executive and Clinical Director at Hospice of New Jersey. Before that, she served as Senior Medical Director at Ascent Hospice in New Jersey. After 25 years in academic medicine, Dr. Pliner recently retired as an Associate Professor of Medicine and Division Director of the Hematology/Oncology Division at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. She currently serves as the Medical Director of Palliative Care Services at East Orange General Hospital in East Orange, New Jersey.
Dr. Pliner earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Biochemistry from Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts and a Medical Degree from the State University of New York at Stony Brook School of Medicine. She completed her Hematology/Oncology Fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. Dr. Pliner has earned certifications in Internal Medicine, Medical Oncology and Professional Utilization Reviewer, and as a Hospice Medical Director. During her career, Dr. Pliner has received over 100 medical research grants and has served on the boards of many organizations including the American Cancer Society, Essex county Unit.
