Featured VITAS Expert
Ileana Leyva, MD

Ileana Leyva, MD, has a knack for plunging into new environments and achieving mastery, whether as a pediatrician in a busy Chicago ICU or, currently, as the regional medical director for VITAS in South Florida.
After earning a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Miami, Dr. Leyva followed it up with an MD from Central Eastern University in the Dominican Republic.
A focus on education, advocacy and outreach guides Dr. Leyva as she devises solutions that benefit the entire hospice community: patients, families, caregivers and healthcare providers.
