Associate Medical Director - Northern Virginia
Amanda Keerbs is an Associate Medical Director for VITAS Healthcare, the nation’s leading provider of end-of-life care. Dr. Keerbs oversees the medical care and treatment of VITAS patients in their homes, nursing homes, assisted living communities and personal care homes in Northern Virginia. She also consults with patients’ attending physicians, supervises VITAS team physicians, guides staff and volunteers, and serves as a resource to practicing physicians and other healthcare professionals on the benefits of hospice and palliative care for patients and their families. Dr. Keerbs has more than 15 years of medical experience.
Prior to joining VITAS, Dr. Keerbs served as Associate Medical Director for Optum Hospice and Palliative Care in Haymarket, Virginia, while concurrently serving as a Palliative Medicine Physician for Novant Prince William and Haymart Medical Centers and at various INOVA Hospital locations throughout Northern Virginia. Earlier in her career, Dr. Keerbs worked as a Family Physician for several hospitals and healthcare facilities including Community Clinic, Inc. in Gaithersburg, Maryland, the University of Washington Medical Center and UW Medicine Shoreline Clinic in Washington State.
Board certified in Family Medicine and in Hospice and Palliative Medicine, Dr. Keerbs earned a bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry, a master’s degree in Health Services Research and a medical degree from the University of California, Los Angeles. She completed a residency in Family Practice at Northridge Hospital and a fellowship in Hospice and Palliative Medicine at Medstar Washington Hospital. She is a member of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine and the American Academy of Family Physicians.
