Facility to Meet the Needs of the Area's Terminally Ill Patients with Complex Symptoms

DALLAS – August 21, 2014 – VITAS Healthcare, the nation's leading provider of end-of-life care, announces the opening of an inpatient hospice unit (IPU) on the campus of Baylor Medical Center at Carrollton. The 14-bed, 10,335 square-foot unit was designed to meet the needs of the area's terminally ill patients with complex symptoms.

At the unit, interdisciplinary teams of VITAS physicians, nurses, hospice aides, social workers, chaplains, volunteers and bereavement support staff members attend to the medical, emotional, social and spiritual needs of patients and their families. The unit features scenic views of the community and offers overnight accommodations for family members. Comfortable amenities including a kitchen, dining and sitting areas, and a serenity room for quiet contemplation and meditation are designed to feel like home. The facility will accept 24-hour direct admissions and high-acuity patients.
