David Wester is President and Chief Financial Officer of VITAS Healthcare, the nation’s leading provider of end-of-life care. As a member of senior management with more than 25 years of healthcare industry experience, David provides leadership for VITAS through its ongoing growth and expansion.
During his tenure at VITAS, David has built a strategic planning capability focused on new business opportunities, rolled out numerous vital information technology upgrades and enhancements, established a national accounts function, and maintained the company’s long tradition of cost-effective back-office operations. David also successfully shepherded the formerly privately owned company through its 2004 acquisition by Chemed Corporation, a then minority shareholder.
David joined VITAS in 1997 as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer and was promoted to Executive Vice President and CFO in 2002. He served on the VITAS board of directors from 2002-2004 and was named to his current position in late 2004.
David’s healthcare experience spans 25 years. He joined VITAS following a successful tenure in senior leadership positions for two of Florida’s largest managed care organizations. Specifically, he served as Executive Vice President of Foundation Health, where he oversaw statewide operations and revenues of approximately $300 million, and he also served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Care Florida, Inc., a $190 million start-up HMO.
Prior to this, he served in various senior-level capacities for companies affiliated with Foster Management, a private investment firm, where he participated in the development of several healthcare companies involved in physical therapy, orthopedics and prosthetics, and managed care.
David began his career as a senior accountant with PwC offices in New York City, NY and Milwaukee, WI, where his clients were primarily publicly held corporations. He is a certified public accountant and a former member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He also served on the board of Medical Staffing Network from 2005 to 2010, a publicly held company providing staffing services to the healthcare industry which went private in 2010. David received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
