Eighteen-year-old Richard, a Chicagoland Northwest
patient, was just growing into manhood … and he had a grown-up wish.
Being bed-bound is difficult, but especially so for a budding teenager.
Richard listened to his high school buddies talk about the latest movie
actresses on screen, the hottest athletes and the prettiest girls at
school.
One day, when talking with Diane Chomko, his VITAS RN, Richard mentioned
that one of his last wishes was to be visited by three girls.
“His wish was our command,” said Diane. She asked three college interns
working for VITAS if they were interested in making a friendly visit
to a wonderful young man in need of an emotional lift. “It wouldn't do
him justice to have three old ladies show up on his door step,” said
Diane with a smile.
Stacia, a redhead, Laura, a blonde, and Melissa, a brunette, each agreed
to play the part of Richard's Angels . “They were honored to
bring Richard some joy and to have a little fun,” said Diane.
Jerry Frens, the team chaplain, agreed to chaperone and transport the
ladies to the home. The ladies rang the doorbell and surprised Richard,
who had a smile from ear to ear!
Thanks to Team 703 for making a difference in the lives of our patients
and families.
