END-OF-LIFE CARE FOR VETERANS

VITAS is committed to honoring those who have served America by providing high-quality care at the end of life. And our teams of experienced hospice professionals are trained to understand U.S. veterans’ unique end-of-life care needs.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, an estimated 23.6 million veterans now live in the United States. Veterans make up one-fourth of all deaths today (650,000 per year)—reflecting the aging of the Greatest Generation that served during World War II, now in their 80s and beyond.

All too often, the end-of-life care that veterans receive does not reflect their unique needs for quality of life, their sacrifices and the effects that military service and combat have had on their lives.

VITAS is committed to eliminating this oversight. We provide care for veterans who have a wide range of terminal conditions, and our staff understand the veteran’s point of view.

VITAS has been bringing hospice care to residents of Winchester House and other assisted living communities in Chicagoland for six years. That includes celebrating birthdays, bringing education and entertainment to residents and staff, and honoring those who served our country. On November 11, 2010, we partnered with Winchester House to celebrate three WWII veterans. Click here to view the video.
