Nurses and hospice aides who pass the National Board for Certification of Hospice and Palliative Nurses can put CHPN(A) after their names, demonstrating their knowledge, skill, experience and general excellence in end-of-life care.
VITAS encourages its nurses and aides to become hospice certified. Some programs offer certification study classes. “Certification is an assurance to patients and their families that these nurses offer the highest quality patient care,” says Peggy Pettit, VITAS Operating Officer. “But it also reveals the commitment they have to hospice.”
