Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, July 9, 2007 – Robert M. Pfoff, MD, has been named Medical medical Director director for VITAS Innovative Hospice Care® of Pittsburgh.
As Medical Director, Dr. Pfoff is responsible for the medical care and treatment of patients admitted to VITAS Innovative Hospice Care® of Greater Pittsburgh. He also consults with the patients’ attending physicians, provides guidance to VITAS staff and volunteers and educates practicing physicians and others engaged in healthcare services regarding the benefits of hospice and palliative care for patients and their families.
Dr. Pfoff, a Board certified geriatrics specialist, continues to care for patients in his private practice in Warrendale. He began providing hospice and palliative care for terminally ill patients in 2002 as Associate Medical Director of Hospice of Greater Pittsburgh. He also serves as Medical medical Director director for LAS/Geriatric Care Services in Zelienople, Pennsylvania.
“End of life discussions are a big part of geriatric medicine,” says Dr. Pfoff of his transition to practicing both geriatric and palliative care medicine. “With our aging population, I see a huge need for palliative care here in the Pittsburgh area.”
Dr. Pfoff received a bachelor’s degree from the College of Wooster (Ohio) and a medical degree from The University of Pittsburgh. He While in the U.S. Army, he completed an internship at Silas B. Hayes Army Community Hospital in Fort Ord, California, and a residency in internal medicine at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii. He served in the U.S. Army.
Dr. Pfoff was named a Certified certified Medical medical Director director by the American Medical Directors Association in 2004 and is a member of the American Board of Internal Medicine. He was certified in Geriatric medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine in 1994 and re-certified in 2004.
