VITAS Innovative Hospice Care® Promotes Valley Forge Resident

Blue Bell, Pennsylvania, May 6, 2010—VITAS Innovative Hospice Care® of Philadelphia announces the promotion of Christine Martyniuk, RN, to Patient Care Administrator (PCA). The Valley Forge resident brings nearly 30 years of clinical and leadership experience in hospice and long-term care to her new role.

As a PCA, Martyniuk is responsible for the daily clinical operations for the VITAS Philadelphia program, which serves patients with life-limiting diagnoses and their families in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties. She oversees patient care teams, which are composed of nurses, hospice aides, physicians, social workers, chaplains and volunteers who work together to provide support to patients in private residences, nursing homes and assisted living communities, and in VITAS inpatient hospice units at St. Agnes Continuing Care Center, Nazareth Hospital, Frankford Hospital and Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital, all in Philadelphia. The VITAS PCA also is responsible for daily communications, quality of patient care services, employee and customer satisfaction and financial management.

Martyniuk joined VITAS in 2004 as a team manager. Prior to joining VITAS, she served as a case manager for another hospice and, before that, as a nursing home administrator.

“I was familiar with hospice after working in administrative positions for a nursing home for 20 years,” says Martyniuk. “I liked the down-to-basics, ABCs of comfort care that hospice offers its patients. Once I started in hospice nursing, I was hooked!”

Martyniuk received her RN from Coatesville Hospital School of Nursing (now Brandywine Hospital School of Nursing), Coatesville, Pennsylvania. She attended West Chester University in West Chester, Pennsylvania.
